FEATURES OF MERCHANDISING QUALITY ASSESSMENT OF OILSEED FLAX STRAW

Abstract

Aim. The work scientifically justifies the necessity of developing standards for oilseed flax for determining quality and attributing merchandising characteristics. Approval of technical documentation at the state level will create markets for oilseed flax straw for its primary processing to produce fibers of broad industrial applications.


Methods. At the initial stage of scientific research the condition of standardization of oilseed flax straw was studied. By means of ranging method important characteristics of straw

quality for identifying its number were determined and relative values of these characteristics were calculated by means of the differential method.


Results. Due to the lack of regulations on oilseed flax straw as raw material the evaluation of raw material quality was performed in accordance with standards for fiber flax, GOST 28285-89 and GOST 14897-69. During experimental studies, the following qualitative characteristics of oilseed flax straw were examined: humidity, impurity, bast yield, color group, general and technical length of stems (stem mass) and diameter of stems. However, breaking stress, applicability and number of oilseed flax straw were not determined. This cannot be performed by methods of current regulations as oilseed flax straw stems differ significantly from fiber flax stems by all physical, mechanical, and chemical properties. Therefore important characteristics of stems were further determined according to indicators by which the number of oilseed flax straw will be identified.


Scientific novelty. As a result of carried out scientific research it was found that oilseed flax straw must be evaluated in terms of humidity and its number. For the first time it was proposed to identify raw material number according to values of impurity, color group and blast yield from stems.


The practical significance. The result of this work was the development and approval at the State Enterprise "Khersonstandartmetrolohiya" of the technical specifications TU 01.1-2303511525 - 001: 2016 "Oilseed flax straw. Specifications". These scientific advances give new impetus to the restoration as well as to the creation in Ukraine of new flax processing enterprises; textile, pulp and paper and other enterprises will be able to use annually renewable raw materials for the manufacture of their products; farmers will increase their income of growing oilseed flax by means of selling straw.
