OVERVIEW OF THE EU MARKET OF DRIED MUSHROOMS AND EXPANDING OF UKRAINIAN EXPORT OPPORTUNITIES

Abstract

Purpose: The main purpose of the article is to analyze the market of dried mushrooms in the EU and to develop the guidelines for Ukraine's development of this market.


Methodology / approach. The theoretical and methodological basis of this study is the modern theory of market economy, the theories of international trade, also the institutional theory. The following methods of economic research were used: inductive one in the course of gathering, systematization and processing of the information; deductive – under the theoretical understanding of the problem; analysis and synthesis - in the studies of structural processes at the export of agri- food products; historical and logical – under the study of development and relationship between the international trade theories and methods of export development monitoring; graphic - forming the schemes on relationships between evaluation, analysis and algorithms; monographic – research on the existing system of analytical support of agri-food product export development; method of hierarchic analysis - for the development of methodological support in an effort process of looking for new commodity markets; grouping method - to compare data; extrapolation method - to create a forecast and calculate the effect; method of expert evaluations that is to evaluate the potential market share.


Results. Market overview of the EU import was carried out to provide data about demand for


 


 


each product being classified according to the product nomenclature of the Harmonized Commodity Description and Coding System HS 0712.31 "Mushrooms of the genus Agaricus", HS 0712.32 Wood ears (Auricularia spp.), HS 0712.33 Jelly fungi (Tremella spp.), HS 0712.39 Other Mushrooms, except those mentioned above. It is established that the average import to the EU (2017-2020) of Mushrooms of the genus Agaricus amounted to 22025 million euros or 3296 tons. Average annual growth for 5 years is in order of increasing 38%. The average import to the EU (2017-2020) of Wood ears (Auricularia spp.) amounted to 5.6 million euros or 796.5 tons. The average annual growth for 5 years reached 3.5%. The average import to the EU (2017-2020) of Jelly fungi (Tremella spp) amounted to 522 thousand euros or 37.5 tons. The average annual growth for 5 years is in order of decreasing 12.4%. The average import to the EU (2017-2020) Other Mushrooms, except those mentioned above amounted to 98.6 million euros or 5.8 thousand tons. The average annual growth for 5 years reached 12.2%. The main competitors of Ukraine in the EU market and the main problems of entering this market have been identified. A group of regulators of agri-food products export has been singled out and criteria for the company's readiness for export have been proposed. The standards for quality and food safety were determined to be one of the main criteria. An analysis of national and international standards for dried mushrooms and dietary products based on them is carried through and suggestions for their improvement in order to increase the competitiveness of Ukrainian products are provided.


Practical value / implications. Methodological support for the development of agri-food exports and the formation of practical recommendations for the development of new markets by Ukrainian producers have been improved.
